Dr. Mazzei believes that everyone is capable of change, especially when empowered and supported to reach one’s goals. As a Health Psychologist, she works with individuals to relieve emotional distress, to improve well-being, and to help facilitate positive life changes. Within a collaborative relationship, she encourages individuals to take an active role in therapy and tailors treatment to meet one’s personal goals. Whether you are suffering from a mental health or physical condition, she focuses on improving your health through proven psychological therapies. Overall, she aims to provide a warm, empathetic, respectful, and supportive therapeutic environment.
Dr. Mazzei provides individual psychotherapy to teens and adults. Additionally, she conducts psychological assessments, including substance abuse evaluations. Her treatment specialties include anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, and certain health conditions. She utilizes health psychology to treat the behavioral issues associated with insomnia, stress management, infertility, chronic disease, chronic pain, eating issues, and weight loss.
Dr. Mazzei’s approach to healing focuses on a biopsychosocial model, improving your brain, body and lifestyle. She integrates components of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), biofeedback, neurofeedback, hypnosis, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), lifestyle change, and mindfulness-based therapies.
Dr. Mazzei’s Credentials and Background
Dr. Mazzei received her Bachelor of Science at Northwestern University and her Master of Arts and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. She completed her doctoral internship and advanced therapy practicum at a residential substance abuse treatment center. She completed additional clinical work, including diagnostic assessment, at a psychiatric nursing home and college counseling center. She offered therapy for patients with chronic mental and physical health issues at a psychiatric facility and medical practice. For over 10 years, she has been providing psychological services.
Dr. Mazzei’s work on meditation and mindfulness has been published and she presented her research in suicide assessment and biofeedback treatment within a substance abuse population. She has been featured in various blogs about mental health issues. Dr. Mazzei provides supervision and training to future psychologists. From the time of her intensive graduate training years to her present professional practice, Dr. Mazzei has gained expertise working with individuals presenting with a wide range of issues in various settings.
Dr. Mazzei is a Health Psychologist, Certified Hypnotherapist, Certified Sleep Hypnosis Specialist, and a Board Certified practitioner of biofeedback from the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance. She is credentialed as a Health Service Psychologist with the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. Dr. Mazzei is licensed as a Psychologist and serves patients in Arizona, Illinois, and Nevada, as well as all PSYPACT states.
Dr. Mazzei is a professional member of the American Psychological Association, Arizona Psychological Association, EMDR International Association, the Association for Addiction Professionals, the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science, and practicing psychologist of PSYPACT states.
