Dr. Mazzei is a Health Psychologist and is experienced in engaging adolescents in counseling. She is aware that teenagers today face unique challenges involving social media, computers, cell phones, apps, video games, and sports. Today’s technology presents certain issues, in addition to the traditional conflicts and struggles that teenagers experience. Parental relationships, peer pressure, bullying and culture have a tremendous impact on adolescents and can trigger anxiety, depression, health problems, eating disorders, and addiction.
Dr. Mazzei understands the complicated world that teenagers live in. She works with teenagers where they are at and incorporates treatments that work for them. In therapy, she aims to establish a therapeutic relationship, where your child feels supported and encouraged to make necessary changes. She will involve parents/caregivers in therapy while respecting your teenager’s need for privacy and independence.

How do I talk to my teenager about counseling?
The idea of talking to a mental health professional who is unfamiliar can be intimidating. If your teenager is hesitant to engage in therapy, you can reassure him/her that he/she will be meeting with someone who is there to help him/her through difficult times without being overly judgemental or demanding. For many teenagers, talking with an objective person outside their friends and family is comforting. What is said during sessions is confidential and is shared only when permission is given or in certain emergency situations. Dr. Mazzei takes a collaborative approach to treatment, where your teen is engaged in his/her own healing and development.
